Why Choose Me for Professional Life Coaching Services?

I am a straightforward, no-nonsense life and personal development coach with lived experience, and I’ve had my fair share of challenges and adversity over the years.

I am proof that it is possible to break the cycle, move past self-limiting beliefs and create lasting change within your life.

I was raised by my teenage mum in a one-parent family. My mum taught me to work hard and be resilient. My grandmother was another special person in my life; however, she experienced mental illness from trauma and abuse she’d experienced during her own childhood.

My early childhood was a happy one. However, when I was 15, I started to struggle with my identity as a young black girl. I was struggling to understand my place in the world. I was raised in a predominately white area, and I didn’t have the opportunity to be immersed in my culture other than with family. I sought out new friendships and connections in the search for meaning but ended up surrounding myself with negative influences.

I needed a wake-up call. And it arrived in 2008. The death of my friend from addiction was a pivotal moment. I decided to forge a new path and step into a more authentic version of myself.

I decided to train as a therapist in 2015. As part of my journey, I had to enter therapy myself. It took time and patience from my therapist to allow me to work through my defences and address some of the intergenerational trauma within my family.

I went from being a conscientious student to being rebellious and self-destructive at times. I remember my teacher saying “Cherisse, you should be a politician because you have an answer for everything.” This could have easily silenced me or made me believe that I was too much or my voice didn’t matter; but later on in life, I reflected on this and decided that my voice could be meaningful and have purpose.

Fast forward a few years, and that rebellious child has an honours degree in Criminology, an Integrative Diploma in Psychotherapy and a Masters in Psychology. I have worked as a qualified probation officer, psychotherapist and life coach. I also have a wealth of mental health experience — gained in private mental health services, IAPT, inpatient settings and, most recently, non-profit work.
